id Software’s John Carmack will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC in March for his contributions to the art and science of games.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the career and achievements of developers who have made an impact on game development. Carmack has more than two decades of groundbreaking technical contributions under his belt with titles like Doom and Quake.

Riot Games has reported that its debut title, League of Legends, has been downloaded by more than 1 million gamers in North America and Europe after three months of availability.
The free-to-play online multiplayer game has also won several awards from the video games press and community and is nominated for “Best Debut” by the Game Developers Choice Awards 2010.

Yoshio Sakamoto, group manager of software planning and development department for Nintendo will give a 60 minute lecture on game design at GDC 2010.
Sakamoto has worked on titles ranging from Metroid to Tomodachi Collection to WarioWare: Different Approaches for Different Audiences.
He joined Nintendo a year before the arrival of the Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan and has worked as a developer on the entire Metroid franchise among other Nintendo franchises.

The GDC 2010 organizers have confirmed new lectures will be held by Pixar ‘notables’, Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux, Double Fine’s Tim Schafer, Final Fantasy XIII’s director Motomu Toriyama, and fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore.
The latest list of big name keynotes joins the already confirmed appearance of Civilization creator Sid Meier. There will be almost 350 other lectures, keynotes, and panels.
